Personally, I like discussions that help me to stretch my perception of the world. Thought experiments or, even better, real-life stories can be very fascinating!

Thank you for reading! Sometimes I wonder if the dishonest ones really believe they are morally upright: I feel they rationalize their actions to the point they self-convince it is OK to behave in a certain way.

For the same reason, I am very cautious about claiming to have special virtues because I believe anybody can easily be disproved in that regard.

I agree that ML models are built on a specific training set (the input “literature”) and they fit the data they were trained on. However, since the AI is not rehearsing a fixed script, or just reading aloud a specific source, the book itself is not directly speaking to us. A non-trivial data interpolation is involved.

This is connected to the second part of your counter-argument that I’d try to rephrase like this: what if the data interpolation is just a mechanical operation and the machine behind it is oblivious to the underlying meaning of the concepts being manipulated? That’s fine, and I believe it doesn't matter: in fact, my Greek Room is just the Chinese Room argument in disguise.

I want to add that current iterations of the technology didn’t reach this degree of sophistication yet (there is no 100% confidence they ever will), but I think we should prepare for this possibility because of the ethical consequences of it.
